Současná generace smartphonů OnePlus stojí docela dost peněz, což vedlo ke spekulacím ohledně možnosti vzniku Lite verze současného smartphonu OnePlus 8. Podle nejnovějších zpráv by se tento cenově dostupnější model mohl nazývat OnePlus Z a na trhu by se měl objevit někdy během července tohoto roku.One Plus Z bude levnější alternativou k dražším smartphonům společnosti OnePlus. Již při prvním pohledu jde poznat, že jeho název čerpá inspiraci z pět let starého smartphonu OnePlus X. OnePlus X byl pokusem společnosti vyrobit v roce 2015 smartphone, který obstojí v konkurenci smartphonů střední cenové kategorie. Na Twitteru se objevil obrázek oznamující příchod nového smartphonu OnePlus Z. Předtím se mělo za to, že OnePlus plánuje Lite verzi série OP8. To však podle některých internetových zdrojů nejde ověřit kvůli pochybnému původu náčrtků a vyhotovení smartphonu, které se objevily online. Je nicméně nutné poznamenat, že dané obrázky nesou podobnost se smartphonem OnePlus Z. Tento smartphone by měl využívat 90 Hz displej bez zakřivených okrajů. Měl by mít k dispozici 5G MediaTek Dimensity 1000-SoC, což je procesor, který by měl být schopný obstát dokonce i v konkurenci dražších smartphonů. OnePlus navíc údajně plánuje nabídnout dvě varianty paměti smartphonu OnePlus Z: jeden model by měl mít RAM o kapacitě 8GB a 128GB vnitřní paměti, zatímco ten druhý by měl mít RAM o kapacitě 12GB a 256GB paměti. Na zadní části smartphonu OnePlus Z by se měl nacházet trojitý systém snímačů zahrnující 48-megapixelový hlavní snímač a další dva snímače, 16-megapixelový a 12-megapixelový. Co se ceny týče, experti se shodují, že OnePlus Z by měl začínat na přibližně 600 dolarech (652 euro). To není příliš překvapivé vzhledem k uveřejněným informacím ohledně hardwaru. Informovaný zdroj tvrdí, že OnePlus Z by se měl na trh dostat ve stejnou dobu jako vlajkové smartphony. OnePlus prozatím uveřejnění smartphonu odsunul na červenec.
